I Love Paris in the Cold

Paris. My number two favorite city in the whole wide world.

There is not anything I can say about Paris that hasn’t been said before.

I can just show you, in small bits, why I love this city…

I love it especially in the Autumn & Winter months.

There is just nothing like walking through Paris on a cold crisp morning…

I love it for its Christmas Market on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, especially because I can always find one of my favorite things to drink…

I love Paris because, despite the cold, streets cafés prosper & bloom

I love Paris because people still read newspapers printed on paper & books with real pages in them…

I have yet to find someone sitting at a café with a laptop,  and rather then every other person I find only one or two immersed in their smartphone – I can not tell you how refreshing that is.

(My Kindle would be an eye-sore here, and I’m uploading this post from my hotel. I am ecstatic I have studying to do, because this is the perfect city to do it in – with my real book & my notes, and sitting in cafe’s for hours at a time)

… and I love Paris because it’s the only city where on The Metro one will come across a full orchestra playing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9…

that will bring one to tears.

  1. It looks so peaceful and beautiful. Your images have brought a strange calm to my morning. I will pretend all day that I am walking through the streets of Paris. I have loads of Beethoven so I will play that on my Ipod as I walk the streets. Thank you for this day Tahira.

    • CN, it is so utterly my pleasure that I can share this with you and that you feel exactly what I attempted & intended to convey. I wish you a wonderful day. And I too will be hearing Beethoven (in my head) all day.

  2. Great pics! I adore Paris – one of the best cities I’ve ever visited (maybe the best)! Paul Theroux said in Ghost Train to the Eastern Star that there is no point describing Paris as there’s nothing to say about it that hasn’t already been said, and everyone is familiar with it even if they’ve already been! But that doesn’t stop us loving pics of the pretty city!

  3. Such wonderful pictures!
Paris is also one of my favorite cities, it’s got the type of atmosphere which no other city has.My favorite time to visit Paris is during the autumn when the trees are yellow and the weather is cool, but not too cold 🙂

  4. Paris is one of my two top favorite cities, possibly my favorite, with Istanbul a close second. I love your captures of Paris street life on a cold winter’s day. It’s great that the Parisians still sit at their outdoor cafes in the bitter cold. I love your photo of the man in the window and the park with that bright red tree.

By the way, I nominated you for the Blog of the Year 2012: http://catbirdinoman.wordpress.com/2012/11/30/blog-of-the-year-award-2012/
